Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis) popularly known as amla, is a deciduous tree of the Phyllanthaceae family. According to belief in ancient Indian mythology, it is the first tree to be created in the universe (Khan 2009). Amla fruits are fleshy, round, attractive, deeply ribbed and yellowish green in color.

  • Do not overwater the plant.
  • Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in the winter and rainy seasons.
  • Allow the soil to dry out between waterings.

  • Thus, vastu recommends planting an amla tree in either the North or the East direction to maximise benefits from it.
  • Also, recommended is worshipping the amla tree if you plant one in the garden as they denote prosperity and good luck.
  • Amla helps in managing liver disorders and reverses any damage caused to the liver due to its hepatoprotective, antioxidant and antiviral activities.
  • It also helps to prevent ulcers by reducing gastric acid production as well as protecting the stomach lining against damage caused by excessive gastric acid.
