Plant Care

  • Watering - Water the plant when the top few centimeters of compost are dry, and let the water drain away completely. Aloe vera plants don't need much water, and in winter, they need very little. In hot, dry environments, water twice a week. Overwatering can cause the roots to rot, and limp or brown leaves are signs of overwatering.
  • Light - Aloe vera plants need bright, indirect sunlight. However, they can get sunburned if suddenly put in too much light. If your aloe plant does get sunburnt, you'll see a white or light brown discoloration against the green leaves.
  • Temperature - Aloe vera plants thrive in warm weather, about 25 degrees to 40 degree celsius. However, they are sensitive to drastic fluctuations in temperature. Keep your plant away from drafty doors and windows, especially in the winter.
  • Fertilizing - Fertilize in the spring before new growth begins. Use a standard houseplant fertilizer or a succulent-and-cactus fertilizer.
  • Pruning - Prune the leaves regularly to keep the plant healthy.
