Plant care

  • Watering - Water the plant every four days, or more often and thoroughly in the summer. Betel plants prefer moist soil, but they don't like to be in a wet environment.
  • Light - Betel plants prefer partial light and shade, such as an east or north-facing corner in a home. Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Fertilizer - Feed the plant every 20 days with a well-balanced houseplant fertilizer.
  • Repotting - Repot the plant when it's root-bound. If you're growing in a pot, use a deeper container because the plant needs a well-developed root system to grow healthy.
  • Pests and diseases - Betel plants can be susceptible to pests and diseases, such as red mites and leaf blight. You can use insecticidal soap for mites or prune infected leaves or stems for leaf blight.
  • Temperature - Betel plants prefer warmer conditions, so you can keep them outside during the warmer months but it's best to bring them inside when it's cold. Frost will damage the leaves but not kill the plant once it is well established.
